Child Line 1098:
Child Line is a national helpline specifically operating to intervene in a child at risk. Any land phone will be able to connect to the helpline phone functioning at Saranalayam. A 24/7 staff will immediately answer your call and navigate through all possible help to rescue the child.
Child Abuse is any act or failure to act by any person under circumstances which indicate that a child's health, welfare and safety is harmed. This may result in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation; or an act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm.
By communicating concerns we use our knowledge to protect children. Even if abuse is not occurring, it is still important to let others know when you have concerns.
If you suspect an act of abuse has occurred, witness abuse or someone tells you they were hurt, carefully note all of the following:
- Actual observations of behavior
- Physical appearance
- Unexplained injuries
- Things the child said
these could be symptoms of:
- Physical Abuse
- Neglect
- Emotional Abuse
- Sexual Abuse
- Being Orphaned
- Being abandoned
A child will not know that he/she should first approach someone for help. The street children often feel that they are on their own and have to work or do something to live.
Call 1098 if you see a child at risk!
